A free screening of the film “Tod den Hippies, es lebe der Punk!” (Punk Berlin 1982) will take place at aMBUSH Gallery on Wednesday 23 March at 6pm as part of the Geniale Dilletanten exhibition.

“Tod den Hippies, es lebe der Punk” (English title: “Punk Berlin 1982”) is a 2015 feature film by Oskar Roehler.

The story is set in Berlin’s subcultural scene in the 1980s, and is therefore ideally suited for the public program of our “Geniale Dilletanten” exhibition. The movie stages the experiences of 19 year-old Robert. He is fed up with the “hippie culture” in his German village, and dreams of an exciting new live in West Berlin.

When he arrives in Berlin, the wall still divides the city, and he begins to discover the West Berlin night life: a crazy world of drugs, alcohol, art, sex and punk rock. When he starts a casual cleaning job in a brothel, he falls in love with one of the peep show dancers, Sanja. From then on he gets involved in increasingly anarchic and illegal activities. During the film, the protagonist meets several subcultural icons such as Blixa Bargeld and Nick Cave – however (unlike “B-Movie” which we screen on 01 April) this film is not a documentary using original footage: all characters are played by actors.

Movie start: 6pm
