‘Winds of Fire, Eternal Light’ is a visually striking exhibition featuring large-scale works by internationally acclaimed Aboriginal artist, A. Professor Wayne Quilliam.
Unveiled for NAIDOC Week 2024, it transforms the atrium of Quay Quarter into a living canvas of Indigenous storytelling and cultural homage.
Three monumental artworks, each measuring an impressive 8 metres long by 3 metres wide, cascade from the office spaces down into the retail area. Printed on sheer material, these pieces create a stunning interplay of light and shadow, creating a dynamic visual experience.
Quilliam’s masterful use of colours – blue, earthy reds and browns, white, black, and grey tones – speak to the elemental forces that have shaped the land and its peoples for millennia. His works explore the boundaries between the physical and the intangible as they ebb and flow in the ether.
‘Winds of Fire, Eternal Light’ is a meditation on hope, passion, love, and resilience. It pays homage to Elders and ancestors while celebrating contemporary Indigenous culture, aligning with the 2024 NAIDOC theme, “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud.”
The activation is curated and produced by aMBUSH Gallery and presented by Quay Quarter.
