Presented by aMBUSH Gallery from its new home in Sydney’s Central Park, Three/3 was a featured exhibition of annual photography festival Head On 2015. The exhibition comprised three bodies of work by Emmanuel Angelicas (AUS), Benjamin Lowy (US) and Tanu Gago (NZ), whose works are at once invitations, dares, warnings and dismissals, casting the audience in the role of both viewers and voyeurs. Each drawn to the nuances of life on the streets and behind the darkened doorways of three distinct communities from across the world, the Three/3 photographers were united by their individual explorations of the tension that strains between familiarity and otherness, comfort and anxiety, what we are welcome to observe and what was never meant for us to see. Free, public artist talks were hosted at the aMBUSH Event Space during the exhibition period, where audiences were invited to hear Benjamin Lowy and Emmanuel Angelicas discuss their bodies of work. Lowy talked about his collection Iraq Perspectives 1 on Saturday 9 May from 5pm, and Angelicas shed light on Silent Agreements Marrickville 45 on Saturday 16 May from 2pm.
