In "Tall Shadows," David Cragg explores the enchanting interplay of light and nature during the early spring months in the Dharawal area. This period, just before summer arrives, is characterized by the sun's lower angle, casting elongated shadows that dance across the landscape and highlight the rich tapestry of blooming wildflowers.

The work prominently features endemic spring flora, including delicate orchids, vibrant hyacinths, and fluffy flannels, each selected for their unique beauty and ecological significance. Alongside these blossoms, native birds flit through the scene, adding life and movement to the composition.

Cragg’s project invites viewers to reflect on the fleeting moments of spring, a time when the landscape is alive with color and the promise of warmth. The reference photography by Keelan Orrock serves as a stunning backdrop, grounding the work in the local environment and enhancing its connection to place. “Tall Shadows” ultimately celebrates the ephemeral beauty of this transitional season, urging us to appreciate the intricate relationships between light, flora, and fauna in the heart of nature.

David Cragg painted the mural live at 2 Park St/Citigroup Centre from September 30 to October 4, inviting visitors to witness the creation of “Tall Shadows” in real time.

The project is presented by 2 Park St/Citigroup Centre & GPT, and produced by aMBUSH Gallery.
