As part of National Reconciliation Week 2025, Liberty Place and aMBUSH Gallery proudly presented a live art session with celebrated artist and activist Maddison Gibbs.
Held in late May, this public event gave audiences the rare opportunity to witness the creation of Tracks, a new work brought to life in the public space of Liberty Place.
Maddison Gibbs, a multidisciplinary artist known for her exploration of dual histories and contemporary Aboriginal experience, drew from a rich cultural knowledge base to create Tracks. The work reflected this year’s Reconciliation Week theme, Bridging Now to Next, through layered symbolism representing land, sea, and sky, and the ancestral knowledge that connects them. Thousands of markings came together to form a visual map stretching from Gadigal to Darug Country—an expression of deep cultural continuity and a call to collective responsibility for the future.
The event invited passersby to pause, reflect, and engage with the artwork and the powerful stories it held. As both artist and activist, Gibbs brought a unique perspective to the live session, blending intuitive, poetic visuals with a strong message of action and truth-telling.
This activation continued Liberty Place’s commitment to hosting culturally rich experiences that promote learning, exchange, and connection in the heart of the city.
