This multi-disciplinary exhibition from two Venezuelan-born artists was designed to inspire an uneasy curiosity in the audience around the concepts of death, violence, error and constraint.

Eduardo Kairuz and Hermann Mejia were both born in Caracas, Venezuela, and now live in Melbourne and New York respectively. In describing their group exhibition, In Transition, held at aMBUSH Gallery in 2013, the artists drew parallels between their repatriation and the concepts of distortion, juxtaposition and cacophonic layering that characterise their works.

These themes were explored through sculpture, video installation and painting. The artists are collectively intrigued by the space between abstraction and figuration and how experimenting with the potential of that space can bring about uncomfortable yet irresistible artistic findings.
