Sydney-based street artist Daniel ‘Ears’ O’toole, also known as EARS, launched his new EP titled Floating Tokyo, at aMBUSH Gallery’s pop up bar by Newtown Hotel on 22 May 2015, as part of the 2015 Vivid Sydney program. Floating Tokyo, a 6 Track Journey, is narrated with a film clip created from a collage of footage shot by the artist, while exploring the vibrant city streets of Tokyo. A multi-disciplinary artist, best known for his public murals and distinct figurative street art style, EARS has extended his practice to include elements of video and music. Working in music production as a beat maker for more than 12 years, EARS has developed a unique musical style that connects image and sound, intrinsically linking the video works to his elaborate, carefully considered and famous murals. The Floating Tokyo launch event was a live musical performance by EARS, along with a screening of the new film clip for the title track Floating Tokyo. The original sound track composed by the artist draws on his love of Tokyo and deep interest in Asian cultures and folk music. The night also featured a collaboration with Rory MacKay from Optic Soup and a guest appearance by the very talented vocalist Elsz Natasha Nathanielsz.
