MICK HARVEY (Birthday Party/Bad Seeds/PJ Harvey etc) speaks to Paris Pompor (Groovescooter) about his years in Berlin in the 1980s. To get you in the mood, a FREE screening of the already-legendary documentary B-MOVIE before the talk.
The film “B-Movie Lust & Sound in West Berlin 1979-1989“ takes audiences on a fast-paced visual ride through the wild music + arts scene in West Berlin in the 1980s, a decade bookended by post-punk and the Love Parade dance parties. At the centre of the film is the young musician Mark Reeder (MFS/Factory) who decamped from Manchester to discover and celebrate German music and Berlin’s subculture. Reeder rubbed shoulders with a long list of famous musicians, many of whom feature in the film and feature in the accompanying exhibition “Brilliant Dilletantes” at Ambush Gallery.
Alongside Joy Division, Gudrun Gut, Blixa Bargeld, band mate Nick Cave, Einstürzende Neubauten, Malaria!, Cristiane F, DJ Wesbam, MICK HARVEY is one of the artists featured in the film. The Australian musician and producer is renowned for his work in “The Birthday Party”, “Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds” as well as his collaborations with PJ Harvey and his solo career. In conversation with Paris Pompor, he will talk about his experiences in Berlin, the music scene and his encounters with the “Brilliant Dilletantes” and Mark Reeder.
